Linda Millerick of Sadie Mae

When I was about ten years old, my best friend started taking knitting lessons at a local shop in San Diego.  She asked me to go with her and since it was summer and I was bored, I did.  I learned to knit a pullover sweater.   The sweater is long gone but the happy memories survive.   I loved touching the yarns, seeing all those wonderful colors and feeling at home.

As a teen, my mother taught me to sew;  from basic skills to couture techniques while using only the best quality fabric for the job, how to do the handwork carefully,  and to finish everything with care.  She taught me to never cut corners and always do my best work.  A legacy that has stayed with me this day.

As a proud grandmother, I create for Sadie Mae first so it seemed appropriate to name my work after her and the Sadie Mae Collection was born.

As a fiber artist, I have had the most wonderful  years creating, selling and teaching.  Sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, ribbonwork, weaving, doll making and more - I favor all textile arts!   I love what I do and hope it brings pleasure to others.

**   Be sure to follow the Mabuhay Kids blog to see new additions to the Sadie Mae Collection.  And  in September be sure to drop by the store to see all the new Sadie Mae items (the holidays are coming up fast!

Linda Millerick makes the most beautiful baby shoes, hats, sweaters, aprons and other great gift items for babies, toddlers and mommies too! Her handmade work is exceptional, unique, colorful, thoughtful and sweet!

Mabuhay loves every piece from Sadie Mae Collection and so will you!

Summer with Ohana...

Mabuhay was closed for about 2 weeks this summer. Me and my boys spent 14 days in Kauai eating shaved ice, building sandcastles, watching sunsets, swimming in the ocean and hanging with friends at our favorite beaches in Kauai. It was difficult to leave paradise but it was a wonderful vacation! I hope everyone had a great summer with Ohana! xo

Eating shave ice the right way..
No iPads...building sand castles all day!

Going to miss my boys playing in the ocean at the beach all day.

Supporting women artist at Mabuhay...

Supporting women artists is one of the main goals of my business. Almost everything for sale in my shop, from clothing to art prints, to even the smallest accessories are made by women. I find supporting women to be very gratifying and my shop is filled with some of the most inspirational, whimsical, playful and sweet art for children and the young at heart.

Check out the links of each artist to learn more about these amazing women.

PLAY

It was a beautiful day in Noe Valley and a delight to feature Berit Lyssand's beautiful collection of handmade designs. If you did not get a chance to come to Mabuhay today, you can still view the collection and purchase pieces on display. If we do not have your little ones size, Berit would be happy to discuss making a larger or smaller size for your sweet little girl.

I am also now featuring custom handmade piñatas by Ashley Rose Kirschling.  Ashley made these letters for me that spell PLAY in my favorite colors. They are awesome!

"Ashley Rose Kirschling has a background in Education and the arts. She previously worked for the craft blog Oh Happy Day where she learned the techniques for piñata making. She continues her love for paper and throwing an awesome party with handmade piñatas and paper goods under the name Rose Paper Scissors."

She is setting up her Etsy shop but if you need something custom made for your little one's party you can reach her at: rosepaperscissors@gmail.com

And recently I met a really nice couple at the Clement Farmers Market last Sunday and tried one of their lovely teas. The Tea Smiths are working on a tea for kids. Maybe one that will get my kids to bed earlier. 😉
For now Mabuhay carries one of their teas containing all local ingrediants for pregnant mamas.

For more information check out: www.teasmiths.com

It was great to see some familiar faces today and meet new friends too!

I enjoy hosting art openings and trunk shows because I have so much ❤️ for all the local makers and their creations in my boutique.

Mabuhay!
